The Mangamuka Route.
Road Now Open. Good Clay Road. Waiting For The Metal The Mangamuka road route between Kaitaia and the Railhead is now open for traffic. Between Mangamuka and Rangiahua the clay road has keen graded and a party in a car driven by Mr Viv Reed, on Sunday came over this road to Awanai, and the most pleasing feature of the journey was the excellent condition of the unmetalied portion of the road, between the two points named. It was recently graded and no more even and level piece of rottd was encountered between Whangarei and the Far North. It is quite evident that the Main Highways Board contemplates having this road metalled very soon because along the route considerable quantities of quarried metal has been stacked in readiness for placing in on the road. If this work is carried out expeditiously the MangamukaRangiahua.road will be open for traffic right next Winter. Tffis route reduces the distance between Kaitaia and the Railhead something like twenty miles and it will mean that to this extent the Northern centres will be nearer to the railway all the year round. Mr Reed AA R D service car is the first to traverse the Mangamuka this year but doubtless others will new avail them* selves of it.
