The Nightingale
Beiirg Brought To Naw Zealand Past Efforts Recalled [Special to Age] Auckland, this day. An effort is being made to acclimatise the nightingale in New Zealand. This recalls the fact that in 1841 the Otago Acclimatisation Society endeavoured to establish the nightingale in this country. The birds, however, died. Canterbury tried the experiment in 1879, but only one bird arrived in the country and it died. Auckland had a try but it also failed. It remains to be seen if the present effort will prove more successful.
