Herd Testing Subsidy

In reply to enquiries made by Colonel Allen Bel! M P re the herd testing suosid.y the Minister of Agriculture states that Herd Testing Associations should forward to the Director of the Dairy Div ision the following particulars: (i) Is testing carried out under the group of Association method. (2' Name ot Association or group. . (3) Name and full postal address of officer in charge. (4) Name ot Dairy Company (if any) with whom members are cooperating. The Government has set aside £3ooo far subsidising herd testing work. The maximum which may be allocated by the Board (to be set ip) is one shilling per cow in connection with group herd testing work, and expense per cow in connection with ordinary association testing when the fanner takes his own weight and samples. It will, however, depend on the number of cows which are under test during the season as to what the subsidy may amount to below these maximum figures which have been indicated. This cannot be determined until comparatively late in the season, and after all returns have been received and surveyed. It is, however, provided that the Board is to take into consideration the service which each organisation is rendering when allocating the amount of subsidy to each.
