DANCE AT AWANUI.

SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. The Streamer and Confetti dance at \ wanui on 7th. inst. in aid of funds for the \wanui Tennis Club was an unqualified success socially and financially. The hall was tastefully decorated for •he occasion, Nikau palms being placed all round the hall and on the rafters. Lillies were used with effect. Japanese anterns and paper decorations were suspended from the rafters and from the centre of the hall streamer were strung out in every direction. With the different colours and the electric lighting it was a pretty sight, and in keeping with the pretty frocks worn. The music was second to none. The orchestra consisted of Mrs. W. L. Evans and Messrs., Hilton-Jones, McMullen, McMahon, Tom and Ted Walker. The organisers would like to tender their thanks to the musicians who gave of their best

wholeheartedly. The supper was ahly managed by Mrs. Henry Subritzky and her willing helpers. The streamer waltz vas a delightful interlude. Mr. Jim Taaffe of Kaitaia kindly consented to play the piano, so that the orchestra could join in the fun. One coul d not stay in the hall and escape a shower ofconfeUi. The laughter was was good to hear and encores were the order of the evening. Everybody stayed to the finish, an enjoyable time being brought to a close at 2 a.m. when all joined in singing the National Anthem. Mr. Norman McDonald carried out the duties of M.C. in a m inner that left nothing wanting and he, and the committee and all who helped are to be congratulated on the way the function was managed. It is anticipated that a good sum will result; which will augment the club’s finances considerably.
