Holders of petitions in connection with the agitation for the railway northwards from Okaihau are requested to forward same to Mr. C. B. Michie, Kaitaia, as early as possible. Owing to the inclement weather last night the picture “Bob Boy’ was not shown. This will be shown to-night (Thursday) and the public should net miss it. May Donaldson, Patricia Dean, Frank Hoilay, Joyce Richter, and Clara Lunjevich, pupils of the Kaitaia School, have been awarded good attendance certificates for the twelve months ending December 31st 1924. Do not throw away your old Cord Tyres. The new ones have already advanced 20% in cost. The North Auckland Farmers’ Co-op. Ltd. have been appointed agents for the Nu Tread Tyre & Rubber Co. Auckland. This Company will build entiiely new walls and tread complete on old Cord Covers at approximately half the cost of a new tyre. We advise you to see the Co-op without delay as it is antic, ipated the Nu Tread Co. will be compelled to advance their prices in September.

Mr. T. Salvair, who has taken ove >n trolof the Agricultural Hall, is organ' a carnival for Friday, August 28th. in aid ■ of the A. & P. Society, the immediate objective being the improvement ot the hall. A thoroughly enjoyable time is assured all who attend this carnivai dance, 1 particulars of which will be found elsewhere.

The parties will be held every Thursday night until further notice. Mr. R. T. Wrathall, official Liberal can. didate for Bay of Islands, addressed a meeting at Oruru on Saturday night. The next sitting of the Magistrate’s Court at Kaitaia will be on August 17th. By joining the League of Nations the American nation would guarantee the peace of the world. The annual meeting of the Northern Wairoa Steamship Co will now be held on Saturday next at Dargaville. Owing to the weather, the usual weekly card party and dance was not held at Awanui last night. Party will be held next Wednesday night as usual. The N. A, Farmer’s Co-op., Ltd. report holding cattle sales at Victoria Valley on Monday and Kaitaia on Tuesday of this week, when the yavdings were as follows: —Victoria Valley, yarded 381, sold 377; Kaitaia, yarded 473, sold 472. There was a good attendance of outside buyers at both sales and bidding was spirited throughout, prices being well in advance of those ruling last month.

The Koa Rebekah Oddfellows Lodge will hold a Fancy Paper Hat Carnival on Sept. 4th. This promises to be a gay and happy function for everybody. Lucky numbers will be given away with the hats and a prize given to the lucky winner, Hats will be on sale at the door of the A. & P. Hall which which will be the scene of this event. Jas Taaffe will supply his popular music. On October the 9th the Oddfellows will hold a Hard Up dance and give one guinea prize for the most original hard up costume. Don’t miss either of these functions. A country women’s division of the N. Z Farmers Union has been formed and whoever conceived the idea deserves credit. Properly organised, there are great opportunities lor good for such an association. Such a division will not only be valuable from the point of view of the Farmers’ Union, but should serve to bring about a better community spirit among the women necessarily isolated one from another. It should be easy to interest country women in the aims of the association. The hon secretary is Mrs. Pow, 3 Kensington St, Wellington and the hon treasurer is Mrs. C.C. Jackson, “Val D’or,” Kopuaranga, Wairarapa. The annual membership sub is 2/6. A sum of money has been placed on the Estimates for a 60ft bridge over the Kari Kari river (Whatuwhiwhi). The Postmaster General has agreed to re-open the post office at Pukepoto.
