He said shareholders would get an opportunity later of discussing the proposal of donating a sum of money to the Mangonui Hospital for the purpose of installing an X Ray plant and he hoped they would see their way clear to donate at least £l5B for such a worthy object. The prospects looked bright for the coming year and he hoped suppliers would have a successful season.

I he balance sheet was adopted. 1 he result of the postal ballot for directors was as follows: J. W. Hoskin 235. ]■ M. Dawson 235, C. J. Barriball 195, Coulter 188, Yates 166, Lambly 164, King 162, Garton 154, (elected) Jacen’ho 146, Maria 132, Green 103, Foster 97, Wells 23It was proposed by Mr. A. A. Gardener seconded by Mr. H. D. Foster, “That a sum up to £l5O be voted to the Mangonui Hospital, for the purpose of installing an X Ray plant and an electric lighting systtem, and that the matter be left in the hands of the directors. Mr. Garton favoured the proposal but he thought £175 would be sufficient to cover the cost ot installation as it would carry a £ for £ Gov. e-’imont subsidy, and the Western Area • ould hav< an opportunity of subscribing as it was a County hospital. The Eastern A ea had already raised a considerable s mol money. £tsodonated by the Orur 1 Co. would mean £3OO. Mr.' Green stressed the necessity of raising sufficient money to install both plants at the s; me time. Mr. Barriball said that at least £4OO r aid be reqn red for the X Ray plant a I the lighting sistetn, and there war also, money inquired for other purposes.

Mr. R. D. Foster, thought the Co. should v ite £l5O staight out. Mr. A. Maria proposed an amendment " 1 h..t the Company vote thesumol £200.” He said it was a donation that suppliers would hardly feel. Patients had to gc elsewhere for X Ray treatment, which w ,s very costly, and often entailed a lot 01 suffei ing and nobody knew whose turn it might be next. The lighting system was v ry bad and should be remedied withom delay. Additions to the men’s ward and the operating theatre were also urgently req uired. Kaitaia district were now paying more than their share in rates towards hospital maintenance. Mr. W. Jones seconded, but the amendment was lost. The roo'ion was then carried unanimously. li was resolved to instruct the chairman t . ie ng >hc matter up at the annu 1 mre t : o' ihi Kaitaia Dairy Co. with the idea o gening them to subscribe. Mr J. M. Dawson proposed and Mr. R Green seconded' “That the Company appI to the Agricultural Department for a herd tester, to work in conjunction with t T Whangaroa Company.” Mr. S. Urlich opposed the scheme as it Was a burden on new suppliers. The chaii man explained that as there were 250 suppliers in the two factories the Depar'ment wouM bear half the cost ann t e mher half wou be shared rquall bv trie tw. compan. M .J P. Messrs Garton and Maria also spoke at length on the subject and favoured the chairman’s scheme' Mr. Young, the Wellington manager of Joseph Nathan and Co., then addressed the meeting and congratulated the shareholders on the successful season they had expsrienced. He advocated a progressive policy in the way of herd testing and the use of fertilisers. He proposed a vote of thanks and appreciation to the directors and the manager of the Co. which was carried by acclamalion. He said that owing to the slump in butter it had been a hard year for the directors but their policy had eventually turned out to be a good one for the Company. The chairman and the manager suitably replied. Mr. Muir, the Auckland manager Joseph Nathan and Co., briefly addressed the meeting. It was his first visit to the district and he was favourably impressed with what he had seen. He hoped to be up again next year. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr. R. Green for his assistance in surveying the stream tor prospective water power for the factory, on which he reported unfavourably. The chairman said it had been suggested that crude oil be used for generating steam at the factory, but as this cost 1/1 per gallon and had not been tried by other factoriee, the directors had not gone in for it. DIRECTORS’ MEETING At a subsequent meeting of Directors Mr. J. W. Hoskin was re-elected chairman. A butter committee consisting of Messrs Hoskin, Coulter, and Barriball, was then appointed.
