Waipapakauri 0 • The matches for Saturday next are as above. SCHOOL FOOTBALL. . Ur* match between Kaitaia and Awan “> resulted in a win for the latter by 8 to nil. A penally kick at the beginning Of the game and the end of the game a nice try converted made up the score. Awanui played the best game through--out, several of their players showing quite good form at times. Amongst the best were Bird (capt.), Theo Anderson and Hutley. Kaitaia forwards were weak and persistently refused to put any "go’’ into their work. A change is evidently needed in the team. The forwards were disorganised by Don Whitefield, who was playing hooker, hurling his neck and being unable to take his proper place in the scrum. SCHOOL TOURNEY On August Bth the Union will run an inter-school Rugby tourney, all schools in the county being eligible to compete. Since the prizes will be liberal it is hoped that most schools in the county will enter at least one team. m BASKET BALL A large crowd of spectators turned out to witness the basket ball match, Kaiaka r. Oruru. held at Oruru last Saturday. The day was fine and the ground was in J- food trim. There was great applause as the teams filed on the field looking very neat in their striking uniforms. The game opened up very fast, Kaiaka being slightly stronger in the defence than the home team who were constantly getting tangled up. At half time things did not look too bright for Oruru, the scores being 8-S, haring led from the beginning. However on resuming play Oruru put more vim into the game and prevented their opponents from having everything their own way. In the second half Kaiaka scored one goal and a free throw, making their score It, Oruru scoring four goals, bringing their total to 14.
