(From our Special Reporter.) AUCKLAND, this dav. LATEST MARKET REPORTS Price* of beef at Westfield fat stock aale yesterday showed decided improveraent. Extra choice o« made 33/. 100 lb compared 31/- last week. Prime young cow heifer beef ranged trom 27/- to 29/. against 26/- to 28/- last week. Sheep were penned in average numbers and sold readily at late rates. Extra heavy prime wethers brought £2/3/- to £2/5/-, best heavy’, prime ewes £l/16/- to £l/18 - There was a small yarding of pigs which sold under keen competition at advanced rates. Heavy and medium baconers brought from £3/15/- to £2/12/-. Calves were again penned in small numbers and readily at late quotations. The f yardings at Addington market were heavier, practically all classes of stook and store sheep were down in value, as also were fat cattle but fat sheep sold well. There was a further advance in prrcc of butter I/- per cwt being atmouned in cablegrams from London received by Auckland exportrng firms yesterday. The price now stands at 174/- or 9/. better than quotations less than a fortnight ago. When the first rise ocurred about a week ago it was attributed partly to the strike of Danish transport workers and ! apparently inteterruption of supplies trom i Denmark is still contributing and strengthening London values for New Zealand J produce. One cablegram dated trom London yesterday states: Market firm and more business is passing, cheese also hardening. Advice received from London dated June 8 said cheese prices were I/- to 2/- higher now 94/- to 96/- per cwt. Dalgety and Company, Limited, report havtng received the following cablegram from their London house, dated 4th inst., regarding the frozen meat market New Zealand Crossbred Lamb.—Canterbury, heavy 10 Jjjd, light I2d; North Island, heavy tojgd, light ll%d. SHIPPING. • The Ruapehu, which arrives at Auckland from Liverpool this morning is bringing about 200 passengers the majority of whom arc immigrants. The number includes 40 domestic servants for Auckland and other centres The lonic, which left Southampton on May 22, and due Wellington June 29, is bringing 350 assisted prospective settlers for the Dominion, while the Rimutaka, which left Liverpool on May 30 is due here on July 12 and has about 300 assisted passengers and between 40 and 50 public school boys coming out apprenticed to farmers. The latter vessel is also bringing out a number of farm workers from Scotland, North England and Northern Ireland. POLITICAL. It is now arranged that the fusion conference will be held on June 16, and it is understood that the Liberal Executive has ♦ elected its four representatives. Shocking railway disaster occurred early Tuesday morning near Gympie, 107 miles north of Brisbane. The mail train which had left Rockhampton (420 miles ’ north ol Brisbane) at 9.30 p.m. on Monday was passing a low-level bridge over Travraton creek, to miles from Gympie when 11 was partially derailed, nine persons being killed and 55 injured.
