“A pictorial racing souvenir” practically sums up the contents of this week’s issue o the “N.Z. Sporting and Dramatic Review.” But this is not all, Though pride bf place is given the sport of kings, a cosmopolitan selection of other subjects finds happy treatment in the profusely illustrated pages, so that every taste is catered to. A special achievement is the magnificent double page picture printed in Rembrandt brown ink showing well known patrons at the Auckland’s Racing Club’s recent meeting. Prominently shown are Lord and Lady Jellicoe, the Hon. W. F. Massey, Ministers of the Crown and other important celebrities. This is the finest specimen of photographic work that has ev.er been published by any .paper in Southern Hemisphere, and is another instance of the resolution of the proprietors to set up new standards. The racing carnival is also' covered in the way of interesting events depicting the progress of various important and thrilling contests at their most thrilling junctures. The Auckland Trotting Club's meeting is given significance in a comprehensive series of snapshots showing stirring stages of the races, and the Manawatu Meeting is represented in photographs of the appointments, the crowds, the principal events. Among other attractive subjects are portraits of the civic reception to the American athletes, and the Queensland Bowling Team at Wellington. Of universal interest is the set of pictures in connection with the Wellington - Caledonian Society’s Sports showing the winners in the principal events. The stage, screen and society are covered in a varied and attractive collection that adds to the generel effect.
