THE PUKEPOTO METAL.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —l notice in the issue of the “Age” dated April 29th, that three whole columns of valuable space were taken up with a very full report on the discussion on the above subject that took place at Kaitaia Ratepayers’ Association meeting on I2th April. I also notice three letters on the same subject at the* end of the report, showing that someone is making himself very busy over the matter. Now, Mr. Editor, the heaps of metal that I have referred to all along were still at Pukepoto long after Mr. Laxon was in charge of the street job, and long after Mr. Douglas was in charge of the County yard at Kaitaia, and long after Earp had finished carting from Pukepoto, and it was still there in the month of May, so that these

letters instead of clearing the matter up have muddled the position up worse. I also notice that in the report of the general meeting of the County Council in the “ Age ” of the 6th May, the Engineer states that “the missing metal was carted into the Council’s yard by Herman Wilkinson and the County team by his instructions.” Now, why did not the Engineer make this statement when the matter was first brought up ? Instead of accusing ratepayers of coming to their meetings for nothing else but to cause trouble, and at the next meeting of the ratepayers, when the Chairman asked him if he could give any explanation, he referred to his solicitor. I am, &c., A. W. MASTERS. Pukepoto. May I2th, 1920.
