MANGONUI CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

At a meeting of the above, held on Saturday, 18th January, the resignations of Messrs. W. Wilkinson (President) and W. A. W ilton (Secretary) were accepted with regret. Several members spoke in eulogistic terms of the services rendered to the'Chamber by the two retiring officers.

Mr. A. D. Clemctt was elected President and Mr. W. Henderson Secretary and Treasurer. The following Executive was appointed:—Messrs. W. Wilkinson, J. Penny, W. A. Wilton, G. Harrop, C. R. Adamson, R. T. Wrathall, L. J. Matthews. D. W. Tracey, G. Vi. Trimnel, John Garton, and the President and Secretary. Mr. Garton said he had been asked to mention the inconvenience caused to business people by the altered running of the steamers during Christmas and New Year. It was considered by those present that the temporary dislocation of the service during the holidays was unavoidable. The matter of asking for a direct passenger service from Auckland to Mangonui was discussed, and it was decided to keep the matter in view, until conditions were once more normal, when the Northern Steam Ship Company would be approached. It was resolved to urge upon the County Council to secure a refund of certain moneys that had been diverted from the Mangonui wharf dues and spent at Awanui. Some discussion took place as to when the Bank should be re-opened at Mangonui. It is understood that the Bank will be permanently re-opened as soon as a Manager is available. It was decided to write the Bank. The Oruru-Taipa Road was mentioned as a matter to be urged upon the local body and the Public Works Department. It was decided to ask the Connty Council for a copy of the conditions of

the Mangonui Beach Road contract. The work of opening up the Aurere River to admit of traffic at all states [of the tide was considered an urgent matter, and Mr. Reed, M.P., is to be communicated with and asked to assist. The Lands Department is to be approached, to have the Reserve withdrawn from the Taipa Kauri Gum Reserve and the land thrown open for settlement. Regular monthly meetings of the Chamber are to be held on the Saturday on or before the full moon in each month.
