HEREKINO.

|Own Correspondent] Metalling the main road between the Herekino Factory and the township is being prosecuted with vigor. Three teams are at work, but as the hauling is long, the lengh of metal laid per week is small. Beyond the Awaroa, fronting land reserved for soldiers, much more expeditious work is being done by the Public Works Department. Eleven teams arc at work and already a long stretch of road has been finished. Aided by the fine weather Mr. Dysart is making good progress with his Kauri Contracts. Mr. Dysart’s new store is being erected with expedition under the able direction of Mr. T. Dixon. These new premises will be up to date. There will be a separate Post Office, Telephone Office, bulk store and general store. The annual picnic is to be held on Feb. 2lst. Gatherings of this kind have been in abeyance during the war period; but it is hoped that our natural sporting bent will have a fuller sway in the future. The New Year was ushered in a more hopeful spirit and the indications are that the next few years will be a period of expansion and progress. The Herekino School is being held full time. However, as the thermometer stands at 80 degrees in the shade it is proving a trying time for the pupils. The average attendance has been 60 out of a roll number of 70.
