A leeture by Dr. Elizabeth Bryson on “ The Health of the School Child ” was given recently at Levin. She stated that 95 per cent of children taken from any class at random would be found to possess decayed teeth; children with perfect dentition were practically never found. Dr. Bryson advocated teaching mothers the care of the children’s teeth from their early days. She said there was no better food than fresh milk for children, while cream was just as good as cod liver oil. Nervousness was often caused by want of proper sleep. Before school age they required fourteen hours daily, and when going to school ten to twelve hours; they should never be awakened from their sleep.

The peaceful acquisition and control of wealth in this country by aliens is the subject of a question placed before Ministers by Dr. Newman (Wellington Suburbs). A petition on the subject has also been presented to Parliament praying for legislation making it impossible for men of German blood to be members of Parliament or to occupy official positions of any character under the Government. It was presented by Mr. Mr. J. S. Dickson (Parnell), and it came from, and on behalf of, the patriotic women of Auckland. The text of the prayer, says the Northern Advocate was extraordinarily candid and directly personal.
