The Rt. Rev. Dr. Crossley, Anglioan Bishop of Auokland, reached here- on Tuesday, Maroh 19th, and during the several days following visitad the surrounding settlements and oenduoted servioes at the various plaoes. On Saturday afternoon a garden party wae held at the vioarage, Kaitaia. On Sunday 24th two confirmation servioes were held, one in th# morning for the Maoris, and one in the evening for Europeans. There was a large attendance at both earvioes. At the morniag service the Revs, Hawkins, MoWilliam, Tio Pira (Awanui), Taitimu (Peria) and Hare Maih* (Whangarei) were also present. At the evening service tho Bishop we* aooompanied by the Revs. Hawkins, MoWilliam and the vicar, the Rev. C. J. Merton. At this service some 30 candidates were presented for confirmation. At the conclusion of bis address tbe Bishop suggested that an annual commemoration of tbe founding of tho Mission and settlement here should be held on Maroh 26 (Feast of tho Annunoiation). I undsrstand from one of th# churohwardens that this suggestion if likely to be aoted upon. Tho Bishop and party loft for Peria on the 26th.

In response to an application by th# Mangonui County A. and P. Association, the Secretary reoeived word last week that Field Instructor Bayly, of Palmerston North, would visit (he district about lbs middls of April and give leotures and advico on agricultural matters. It is intended to hold a sobeol concert some time next month. Th# children are practising assiduously for it. -Notwithstanding the oold, wet, miserable day, there was a good attendano* of buyers and a large entry of sheep and oatlle at the Farmers’ Union sale, held here on the 20th. Most of the stook were disposed of at satisfactory prices. Tho late Mrs. fates’ section of 281 cores in Victoria Valley was sold to Messrs. Traoey Bros, at £2 18/- per aore. After the sale Mr, Crane addressed those, present on the aims and scope of the Farmers’ Union, Ltd., and invited applications fer shares in the Company. About 100 new shares, were takea up. Masters were most assiduous in their attentions for the comfort of their guests, th# party breaking up in th* wee sma’ hour#, on* and all declaring it a most enjoyable evening. The news that the Hon. The*. MoKenis to be th# new Premier should bo a guarantee that farming interests will be well looked after, and that we will have a steady, shrewd man at the head of afifairs. Scotland again. The formation of the new Cabinet will be watohed with interest.
