(From our own Cormpond«ut.) A very successful sports meeting was held at Awanui on Saturday, the 23rd instant. The attendance was good and the entries large. A dance was held in Evans’ hall in the evening, being largely attended. After paying all expenses the committee have a very oreditable balance in hand, which will be reserved towards next year’s events. The following wore the successful competitors Maiden, 120yds; 5 entries; R. Subritzky 1, F. Dean 2. Boys 16 and under; 8 entries; Thomas 1, M. Wiki 2. Hurdles, 220yds; 5 entries; Alf Dean 1, L. Robson 2. 100yds; 11 entries; W. Herewhino 1, R. Subritzky 2. Half-mile; 12 entries; Alf Dean 1, Merritt 2. Putting the Stone; 7 entries ; Cosovioh 1, H. Christensen 2. Stepping the Chain; Cosovich and R. Smith tie. 220yds ; 9 entries; Herewhine 1, C. Moselen 2. 440yds; 6 entries; B. Thomas 1, L. Robson 2. Mile ; 9 entries; Albert Dean 1, R. Smith 2. Austrian Race, 100yds; G. Tolieh 1, Kushma 2. The ladies of Awanui held a meeting on Monday evening to arrange a date for a Leap Year ball.
