Bad Shooting,
TO TUP. EDITOR. Dear Sir.—The fact ot the Maori •hooting cafe not coming before the S. M. Court has caused a great deal of surprise and disappointment in the neighbourhood of Kaitaia. In a country where compulsory military training is in force, it appears to be a disgraceful thing that a full grown man should shoot at his wife from a distance of only some five or six yards and fail to hit her. Whilst investigating this matter I have come across a case in which a soldier shot at’ his officer point blank, the officer’s life being saved only on account of the gun missing fire. The soldier was imprisoned for a month for keeping his weapon in such bad order.
I think that the Maori above mentioned should be similarly treated for making such bad shooting.—l am, etc., MILITARYCUS. Kaitaia, 21st March.
