SATURDAY, MAY 13, 1911. Mangonui County Council.

An ordinary meeting of the above was held in the Council Chambers, Mangonui, on Thursday, 4th instant, when there were present:—Crs. Wilkinson (Chairman), Claudet, Wrathall, Powell, Pearson and Masters. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The following resolutions were carried:— Crs. Wrathall-Powell—That the extra tram line on the Mangonui wharf be put in hand at once. Crs. Masters-Claudet —That the Department be again written to re the valuation for 1910-n. Crs. Wrataall-Powell—That the Minister for Justice be written to and asked if the authority to grant permits for auction sales at basket socials, extended to the Council, may not be continued. Crs. Masters-Claudet —That this Council cannot see its way to graut an extension of time to the bullock teams to use the roads after the Ist May. For: Crs Wilkinson, Masters.

Pearson and Claudet. As an amendment Cr. Powell proposed and Cr. Wrathall seconded : That, in view of the hardships inflicted on persons who have contracts to fulfil, the bullock teams be permitted to use the roads until the last day of May, provided that the weather be favourable. The amendment was lost. Crs. Wrathall-Masters —That Mr. Vernon Reed, M.P., be asked to support the Council’s request for to repair flood damages caused by torrential rains throughout the County. This sum does not include the Waitomo Bridge, which has been put out ot commission through the same cause. Crs. Wilkinson-Claudet—That the accounts as read be passed for payment. Crs. Masters-Wrathall—That the letter from Mr. Pollock he acknowledged and he be informed that the Council will keep the matter steadily in view. Crs. Masters-Pearson—That Mr. Reuther’s letter be acknowledged and that the Council will be happy to move in the matter indicated. Crs. Wrathall-Powell—That be voted for the purpose of effecting repairs to the Waipapakauri landing shed (re-flooring, battening, etc.) so as to make the building* sufficiently waterproof during the winter months to enable the Ahipara and other settlers to store their goods overnight without fear of damage. For : Crs. Wilkinson, Claudet, Powell and Wrathall, Against: Crs. Pearson and Masters, on the grounds that this shed is upon private property. Crs. Pearson-Wrathall —That the Road Overseer be instructed to look into the matter of giving Mr. Albert Buckingham a practicable road access, to go into the matter fully, and repoit at the next meeting. Crs. Pearson-Claudet—That Mr. Hindson be informed that the sliprails across the road must be removed, and that the Council wish Mr. Hindson to show cause why the gate complained of should be shifted ; that Mr. Henry Wells be asked to remove said slip-rails. Crs. Wrathall-Claudet—That when the Road Overseer next visits Waiharara he view the road complained of in Mr. Hagger’s letter, and he be given authority to effect temporary repairs.

Crs. Masters-Claudet —That the matter of drainage from Awanui school be left in the hands of the Road Overseer. Crs. Wrathall-Claudet—That this Council is willing to give exchange of roads at Waihopo on the lines indicated by Mr. W. W. Povey.

Crs. Powell-Claudet That the Pukepoto Bridge be dismantled on account of its dangerous state and that a small sum be expended in making an approach, and ford. Crs. Wilkinson-Claudet—That 10/- of revenue be spent on the Hihi Road. As an amendment: Crs. Wrathall-Powell That tos. “thirds” only be spent on the Hihi Road. For the amendment : Crs. Wrathall, Powell and Pearson ; for the motion : Crs. Wilkinson, Claudet and Masters. The Chairman gave his casting vote in favour of the amend-

ment. Crs. Wilkinson-Claudet—That the lists of grant requirements, as written out by Riding members, be forwarded to the Minister of Public Works, also that a copy be sent to our member, Mr. Vernon Reed; the various lists to be entered in the Minute Book. Crs. Powell-Masters—That notices be put up on the Herekino Gorge Road (new deviation) that no vehicles excepting those with springs will be allowed 10 use this new deviation till further notice. Crs. Wrathall-Powell—That £6 be paid to Huirama Tukariri for work done on the road through his property to the landing at Kenana. GRANT REQUIREMENTS.
