In New York a man was carrying a live irurtle along the street, when by came an Irishman followed by a large dog. The Y T ankee tried by gentle words to get the son of the Emerald Isle to put his finger into the turtle's mouth, but he was too smart for that. "But,” said Pat, "I'll put my dog’s tail in and see what the baste will do.”
He called up his dog, took its tail in his hand, and stuck it in the turtle’s mouth. He had scarcely got it in when its jaws shut down on the poor dog's tail, and off the dog started at a terrific pace, pulling the turtle after him at a greater speed than it had ever gone before. The Yankee, seeing Ms turtle vanishing, yelled to Pat, "Hi I call tyack your dog !” Pat coolly put his hands into his pockets and strolled after his dog, saying in the most provoking way to the exasperated Yank : "Call back your fish .!*
