Japan’s Financial Difficulties

TOKIO, July 4

The Japanese cabinet has resigned in connection with the finances of the country. It is understood that their successors will follow the same general policy including retrenchment. The Congo Boundary Commission. A New Gold Field. LONDON, July 4. The Congo Frontier Commission has completed its survey. A mistake on the maps, whereon the convention of iS94 was based, placed the thirtieth meridian twenty miles west of its true position, hence a strip of 120 miles in length sunposed to be British territory is now regarded as neutral. Britain upholds the Commission. Should the strip be added to Congo territory Britain will he deprived of access to Lake Albert Edward. The Commission also reports that considerable activity exists on tho Kilo gold field, inside the Congo border and largely worked by Australians. Financial Depression,

LONDON, July 4

Mr. Lloyd George, Chancellor of the Exchequer, speaking at the Mansion House at a banquet to the Bankers and Meichants, said that with a stunning deficit, dwindling revenues and depressed trade ho was in no mood for jesting. Depression was passing throughout the world and was not confined to Great Britain. Everything was diminishing except the demands on the Treasury. Apparently there was a regular conspiracy to rob the exchequer. Mr Lloyd George greatly doubted if anyone knew what the true cost of the old age pension scheme would be. It would probably cost nearly thirty millions instead of seven millions.
