To-day’s Passengers, OPUA, to-day. The following are the passengers from Auckland by to-day’s Clansman :—For Mangonui: Mesdames Williams, Hobson, Evans (2), White. May, Thompson, and Lye; Messrs. Haniker, Bradley, Tracey, Toby, Forbes, Biss, Fulthor, Hoskin and four schoolboys. For Whaugaroa: Mesdames Hayes, Shepherd, Fulljames and Gibbons ; Misses Jones, Bray (2), Gribble, Saunders, Collard, Douglas (2), Hayes, and Anderson; Messrs. Boardman, Hayes, Shepherd (2), Sail, L ine, Utting, Stewart, Campbell, Falconer, Fulljames, Masters, Taylor, Hayes, and Bramley. Wellington, Monday. Mrs. Kensington, wife of Mr. W. G. Kensington, secretary for Lands, was killed this evening by being rim over by a motor car at the foot of Bowerstreet. Mrs. Kensington, accompanied by her two daughters, had been into the city during the afternoon and the three were walking homeward along Lambton quay shortly before five o’clock. When they reached the Bower-street crossing t li e fire brigade’s motor car, driven by a man named Spry, approached the same spot at the same time, bound for the Botanical gardens, where a fire

had broken out* The car passed right over Mrs. Kensington’s head and she was killed instantaneously. Miss Louisa Kensington was also thrown down and was picked up with a compound fracture of one leg. Miss 0. Kensington was uninjured. It is said that the motorman sounded the alarm and swerved to avoid the ladies, but they became confused at the approach of the machine. Christchurch, to-day. At the adjourned inquest touching the death of (feo. do Montalk, who was killed recently in a collision between a motorcar and cart on the Riccarton road, was held to-day. Evidence was given to tho effect that the car had been taken without permission from the garage. The car was driven by Felton and the party stopped at several hotels and had drinks but were quite sober. They were on the wrong side at the time of the collision. The jury returned a verdict that deceased met his death owing to the neglect of the driver of the motor-car in driving on the wrong side of the road. Felton was then arrested and charged with manslaughter and on the application of the police was remanded till Friday. New Plymouth, Monday. The Corinna took from New Plymouth to-day 10,044 boxes of butter. Dannevirke, Monday. H. Garsford’s homestead at Oringi Station was burned on Saturday night, little being saved. Wellington, Monday. A burglary was committed at the stamp office at the Government buildings on Saturday. At first it was uot known how much was taken, hut it is now believed that it will represent over £100(1. There is reason for suspicion that the robbery was planned by someone familiar with the office. The descent ! was made by means of a rope I and there were finger marks upon a number of windows, from*which it is surmised that more than one person took part j in the burglary. New Plymouth, Monday. The second express from Wellington to New Plymouth ran into a trap near Normauby, driven by an elderly man named Mr. Wm. Thompson, a farmer. The horse was disembowelled and the trap smashed, but Mr. Thompson was thrown clear, landing on the head of the engine. The driver pulled up promptly and the injured man was taken to Normanby, but there is little hope entertained of his recovery. Taupo, Monday. Waipikirangi geyser, at the Spa, which has been dormant for some time past, suddenly burst into activity on Saturday last and is now giving magnificent displays, sending huge volumes of water from 150 ft. to 200 ft. high at intervals during the day. It is a source of great attraction to tourists. Gisborne, to-day.

A gun accident happened at Makauri yesterday by which Mr. (Bolton sustained painful injuries. Mr. and Mrs. Bolton were conversing on the verandah when a young lady, who was with them, took up a rifle which had been left near by, not knowit was loaded, and the gun was accidentally discharged. The bullet struck Mr. Bolton on the leg fracturing the boue. Wellington, Monday. At the Magistrate’s Court to-day, Arthur Law, William Scott and Harry Martindale were committed for trial on the charge of being occupiers of alleged betting houses. Auckland, to-day. The first match of the Marylebone Cricket Club team’s tour, that with Auckland, concluded at the Auckland Domain yesterday, the result being a drawn game.
