Whatever opiniou may be entertained of our illustrated supplement, we cannot be charged with failing to take an interest in our readers It is usual to give the staff a week’s respite at Christmas time, and to do this we are compelled to miss an issue. Thus in order to give our subscribers and advertisers full value for their money we decided to print a special edition. Our next issue will be published on 2nd January, 1907. The modest effort we have put forth on this occasion to produce a seasonable copy we feel sure will be appreciated by our readers, and while we do not claim that it contains exceptional merit, we are proud to say that the printing has been done entirely by our staff, without outside assistance. We do claim however that, taking the issue by and large, it is no disgrace to country journalism. We would have liked to have given our readers a larger paper, but the influx of work, which is usual at Xmas time, prevented us from doing more than we have. Altogether there are eighteen views, twelve of which are illustrative of far Northern scenery. Of these two (of Houhora) are from photos by Messrs. Northwood Bros., two (of Awanui) by Mr. H. C. Subritzkv, and one (Robertson’s Island) by Mr. J. J. Maxwell. The verse and prose accompanying the illustrations has been carefully selected and we think will prove interesting.
