LONDON’S 25,000 LUNATICS.
London’s army of pauper lunatics is on the increase, and the mental experts connected with the medical superintendants of the various London asylums give as the reasons for this increase “drink and heredity.” I This year there are nearly 25,000 j lunatics under treatment in pauper* asylums, an increase of over B,oooj in fifteen years. During the last year 3,814 newi patients were admitted to the vari-| ous institutions, and a table of thei occupations of the patients showshow prevalent mental disorder is in l the essentially working classes, the, underpaid, overworked submerged tenth of London.
