Fairburn.
(From our Own Correspondent.) A basket social was held in the schoolroom on Friday last, 15th instant, in aid of the local cricket club funds and proved a success in every-way. There was a large attendance, the total takings at the door and sale of baskets being £2l 11/-. The highest price was realised for Miss Fisher’s basket, viz., while the lowest price for anj r basket was 8/6. Mr. A. Wallace acted as chairman and ; auctioneer, and Messrs. Christensen provided splendid piano and violin music. Among the performers were Miss Fisher, and Messrs. Overington and son, White and Hoskin. The result of the social must be very gratifying to all concerned, especially Messrs. J. T. Coulter and W. Hoskin, who were the main promoters. Universal regret is expressed at the death of the late Premier. How great his loss to this country will be, is hardly yet appreciated. June I#, 1906.
