less anxious, the needy holders have already sold. Prime samples of wheat are quitted at 4s. 2d. to 4s. 3d. for early delivery, and as much as 4s. 4d. has been paid for very superior samples. Flour continues very steady at £11 to £12, all the millers being in full work. Oats do not meet with so much attention ; prime milling samples, in store, fetch Is. lOd. to Is. lid., and for farmers' lots Is. 9d. to Is. lOd. is noted. Common feed are scarcely inquired for at Is. 7£d- to Is. B£d. Barley is in excellent request, and as much as 4s. 6d. has been paid for really prime parcels. In provisions, we note an improved inquiry for cheese, at 4d. to 4£d. Butter is not so firm at 7?d. to 7^d. New cures of hams and bacon are not yet ready, and stocks of old are well cleared out. We have again little change to report in the stock market, except that, upon the whole, there is a slight improvement in the value of store stock, especially cattle. It is difficult to account for this, except that prices had reached a point below which they could scarcely go, and therefore everyone having grass operated with the certainty of realizing a profit. For store sheep there is an extensive demand, both by farmers wanting small lots, and by runholders whoHe runs are lightly stocked. The prices, however, still keep low, and there oan be no more profitable transaction for those who have the means of keeping sheep during the winter than to buy store sheep, either ewes or wethers, as the wool in all cases will more than pay the original cost. The rain which commenced to fall on Thursday night, will do an immense deal of good, although it is too late to make that abundance of winter feed which is so essential. However, the stockowners who may be short of grass must endeavour by the judicious use of hay and straw, to carry on their stock till spring. iXessra. E. Hi tcii ell and Go. report for the week ending April 5, as follows : — A large number of cattle have changed hands this week, and at the yards, on Wednesday, there was a marked improvement in prices ; cows and heifers near calving were in good request, and sold at from 10s. to 158. per head advance upon lato rates. There was also a ready sale for prime beef, at from 17a. 6d. to 18s. 6d. per 100 lbs. The sheep market was fairly supplied with fat stock, but there was v deficiency of good stores ; good sound merino ewes are much inquired after for crossing purposes. Our sales comprised thirty head of cattle, which sold as follows : — Calves, 15s. each ; weaners, 259. ; heifers, £3 55. ; cows, £3 15s. to £5 15s. Three pens of prime cross-bred fat sheep brought 12s. 6d. and 13s. each ; also, one pen. of pure-bred Leicester rams (Maclean's), seven guineas each. DUNEDIN.-Apbil 8. The Otago Daily Times reports :— In the grain market we cannofreport any great extent of town business, though on the coast there had been a better trade, both for delivery here and for shipping. Wheats have come to hand sparingly, and the sules on the spot have consequently been few ; samples of good new are saleable at 4s. 6d. Barley has come forward very slowly, and a few good malting lots are available. 48. 3d. to 4s. 6d. is the quotation made by dealers. The quantity of oats offering has been considerable, prices ranging from Is. lOd. to 25., a good parcel of last season's being quitted at the latter rate ; inferior and bad coloured samples being placed at Is. 6d. to Is. Bd. Though these prices show no improvement in price, there is a firmer feeling with regard to oats prevailing. Town milled flour stands at last quotation, viz., £12, with a steady demand, though no large operations. Recent shipments of potatoes have been placed by importers at 70s. to 80s. OAMARU.— ApeiI 9. Wheat still continues at 45., the Bupply being equal to present demand. Oats, plentiful — lighter qualities of feeding sorts' almost unsaleable; good milling, Is. 9d. Barley, 3s. 9d., demand brisk, supply limited. Flour, £12 for best. Oatmeal, £13. Pollard, £4. Bran, £3. Potatoes, £5.
