COLLING WOOD.

[FROM A CORRESPONDENT.] Boxing day -witnessed, the renewal of the sports usually enjoyed in this district. The day waa clear and bright with a gentle sea breeze blowing, sufficient to make it agreeable to the number of spectators from all parts who were assembled ; the fair sex as usual were in the ascendant, we noticed also a number of the good folks from. Takaka. Everything went off in first-rate style and without a cavil, everyone pleased and apparently desirous to make the best of everything. All the races were keenly contested, and every nerve strained for the post of honour, if not of great emolument. Subjoined is a list of the winners : — Canoe Race. — Brace, 1 ; Eiley, 2. Canoe Rack— Williams, 1 ; Allen, 2. Boat Race.— Mr. Ponsonby's Evelina, 1; Mr. Williams's Fanny, 2. Men's Fiat Race (200 yards).— Williams, 1 ; Tennent, 2. Men's Flat Race (100 yards).— Williams, 1 ; 0. Brougham, 2. Men's Hurdle Race (six nights). — C. Brougham, 1 ; Williams, 2. Hitbdleßace (horses).— Mr. Walker's Maude, 1 ; Mr. Page's Kangaroo, 2. Flat Race (horses).— Mr. Richmond's Rainbow, 1 ; Mr. Miles's Waverly, 2. Pole Vaulting-.— F. James, 7ft. '7m., 151 5 C. Brougham, 7ft. lin., 2. Foot races for men and boys, duck hunt, greasy pole, sack races, &c, &c. formed amusement until near sunset, when a move was made homeward. We should state that in the 100 yards race, there were two dead heats ere the prize wa3 won. We trust another Christmas may see the same good feeling and harmony prevail, and as the old song says, " May wo be there to see it."
