ACCIDENTS AND OFFENCES.
FATAL COACH ACCIDENT. A very serious accident befel Holder's four-horse coach on Wednesday, the 27th ult., which caused the death of one ol the passengers, a miner named Anderson, and injured more or loss severelyseveral others, besides rendering necessary the destruction of one of the horses. The coach, after delivering the country mails at the Postoffice in Waimea-street, was about moving when a dog started one of the leaders, which prevented the driver bringing it round in front of the Post-office with the customary sweep, as the horseß ran too far across the road towards the tideway, thus rendering the turn rather Bharp. Owing to the top of the coach being heavily laden, while several of the inside passengers had alighted, and to the rounded form of the crown of the road, the coach on turning overbalanced, and came to the ground on its side. Anderson, a miner from Wangapeka, who, sitting on the box seat, when he found the coach going overjumped off, but did not get clear of the vehicle which came upon him when it reached the ground, and inflicted such iujuries as caused his death within a few hours. Several of the other passengers, both upon and within the coach, were bruised and shaken, the mate of the deceased suffering the most, but the injuries sustained were not of a very serious nature. When the coach fell, the two wheelers were thrown down, and the kingbolb gave way. The leaders then started off at a gallop up Bridge-street towards their stables, dragging the two horsea which had fallen along the ground. One of these was so much injured that it had to be shot, and the other will not be fit for work for eoine time.
