Neb? THE SEVENTH ANNUAL REPORT OP THE DIRECTORS OF THE PER1 MANENT BUILDING SOCIETY, OF NELSON. In meeting the Shareholders for the seventh time, the Directors have the satisfaction to inform them the first Series of Shares were matured in October last, and have sinco been paid. This Scries having been very large in proportion to the other Serieß, and consisting chiefly of investors, has occasioned much perplexity for the last three or four years as to the best mode of paying off, which problem the Directors have at last solved by a Loan from their Bankers, repayable by monthly instalments of Five Hundred Pounds, and, as you will perceive by the statement of the year's accounts, the balance due to the Bank on this Loan, on the 31st March, was Five Thousand Pounds. The repayment of this sum of Five Hundred Pounds, and providing for withdrawals as they fall duo, absorbs nearly each month'a receipts ; but with the improvement of trade, which may now be looked for, tho Society should be enabled to extend its business, more especially as the profits for the past half-year, show a great improvement to the existing Series of Shares. A suggestion has been made by one of the Auditors — which deserves consideration — respecting the paying off the various Series as they become due, to this effect : — " That as the Series of Shares mature, should there not be sufficient cash in hand to pay off the investors, a ballot or drawing of lots should be held for the payment of as many Shares as there may be cash to provide for, and that the remainder be allowed ten per cent, per annum interest on their respective amounts until they ai'e paid." The total number of Shares, with their values, is shewn by tho annexed Statement of the Liabilities and Assets of the Society, to the 31st March last. The value of the Shares is an unmistakable fact of the prosperity of the Society, and shows it to be ono of tho most profitable and safest investments in the Province. You will now bo called upon to elect Four Directors in the placo of those retiring in accordance with the rules. The names of those retiring are Messrs. Barlow, Barton, Luckie, and Thornton ; and the names of the candidates duly nominated for you to chooso from arc Messrs. Sharp, Catley, Wells, Luckio, Thornton, Grant, Kingdon, Hibble, Pratt, and Hadfield. THE SEVENTH ANNUAL STATEMENT OF THE PERMANENT BUILDING SOCIETY OF NELSON. Dr. March 31, 1869. Cr.
