THE PRINCE IN SYDNEY.
The following telegrams respecting the Prince's movements in Sydney appear in the Melbourne Argus of the 25th ultimo : — Sydney, January 23. The Prince's levee was very numerously attended to-day. Visitors continuo to throng tho city. Immense crowds are assembling to see the fireworks. The weather is favourable. January 2-1. The fireworks were considered satisfactory, and were witnessed by 30,000 spectators. To-day, at the grand review, over 2,000 Volunteers awd Btfgul&Ys -weye pYemtf, awl the largest assemblage ever seen here attended. The proceedings were short. The Prince was dressed as a Prussian officer, and was loudly cheered. To-night the Prince attends some classical plays at tho University, and to-morrow the races. On Monday ho will be at the regatta. On Tuesday there will be an aboriginal cricket match, and torchlight procession.
Accident in Victoria. — "Another of those frightful accidents," says the Argus, of the 25th January, " resulting from the incautious supervision of thrashing machines, occurred at the farm of Mr. P. Cochrane, near Sunbury, yesterday. While a man named Thomas Mitchell was attending a machine, his left arm was drawn into the workings and completely smashed. Ho was immediately conveyed to the Melbourne Hospital, where amputation of the limb at the socket was performed by Mr. James." Adelaide Insurance Company. — The following paragraph from the Argus, of the 25 th, shews a very great contrast between tho profits of Insurance compauies here and in Adelaide :—": — " The half-yearly report of the Adelaide Marine and Firo Insurance Company shows a profit of £23,000. The directors have deelarod a dividend of 15s. a share, being at the rate of about sixty per cent. 14s. has been added to the value oi each share, as paid-up capital."
