fflisceilaneottg* Just Published, Price 215., Volume 11. OP THE NEW ZEALAND STUD BOOK, CONTAINING A List of all the Thoroughbred Horses in the Colony, with their Pedigrees ; A Comparative Statement of the Performances of English and Colonial Horses; A Treatise on Breeding ; Tables of Pedigrees of all the Stallions in tho Colony, aad of most of the progenitors of the Turf j Dates of Birth of Stud Horses ; And other information highly useful to Breeders. Opinions 00? the Pbes3. I intend distinguishing between the few mares of undoubted pedigree and the many with no pedigree at all beyond their grunddam's, after the style and manner employed by Mr. Elliott in his wonderfully perfect work, the "New Zealand Stud Book." — Proipectut of Nev> South WaUt Stud Book, Vol. 11. We have received a copy of Volume 11. of "The New Zealand Stud Book," compiled by Mr. Elliott, and published at tho Examiner office, Nelson. The work is in every way creditable, both to the editor and the publisher, being well arranged and well got up. The introductory remarks on the Comparative Merits of Colonial and English Horses, and on Breeding, are interesting. We notice tnat of the list of brood mares given, very few are to be found that have not a stain in their pedigree. These are, however, all classified, as well as those that are known to be thoroughbred; and those colonial bred, but abo with a thoroughbred pedigree, as attested in the English Btud Book. If the Stud Books of Victoria and New South Wales had been compiled in a similar manner, breeders would then have had no doubt on such an important subject as purity of blood, now-a-days considered a tine qua non for success on the Turf. If the TOlume before us is as correct as it ia well got np, it is a most valuable contribution to our Turf records. — Atutralatian, July 28. To be had at the Examiner Office, Nelson.
