A letter was read from the Manager of the Union Bank, stating that the danger (if any) arising from the new building in Hardy-street, will shortly be removed. After a discussion, the Overseer was instructed to open the ditch, so as to let off the water. The Seoektabt reported an application from E. Blick, thai; a footbridge in Bronti-street, which had been washed away, might be replaced. The Overseer was instructed to replace the bridge, if it can be done at small expense. Messrs. Webb and Bentley were deputed to examine the work lately executed by W. Osman, in Trafalgarstreet. An offer made by W. Osman to provide carts, if the Board would find labour, for the purpose of carting stuff to fill up the holes in Nile-street-east j and also an offer to cart stones for paving a water-table near Tory-street, was accepted. t m A letter was read from Mr. Herwin, complaining that it was unjust to the carters generally that the Board did not let their carting by tender. After a discussion, it was resolved, "That Mr. Her* win be informed that the propriety of having horses and carts of their own had been under the consideration of the Board, and, should they decide agaiust such a proposition, the carting will again be let to public tender." In consequence of an application from the inhabitants of Kawhia-street, &c., for the flax and rushes on the roadway to be cut down, so as to render the rotd passable, Messrs. Webb and Graham were deputed to examine the place. On the motion of Mr. Aitken, seconded by Mr, Bentley, it was resolved, " That the Board do adjourn for a fortnight." The Bank ob Otago.— We see that a new bank, called the Bank of Otago (limited), has been started, with a capital of £500,000, in 5,000 shares of £100 each. The head office will be in London, the chief branch at Dunedin, and branches will be established at such settlements as the directors may deem advisable.
