General GOVERNMENT.

We have received copies of the General Govern- , went Gazelle to'the 7th of April, from which, we ex- c tract the following :—: — The General Assembly. — Proclamation issued * by his Excellency Sir George Grey.X.C. 13.:— "Whereas j the General Assembly of New Zealand has been and now stands prorogued, to Monday, the 7th day of J April, instant. And whereas it is expedient further to , prorogue the same, and to fix the time and place for | holding the next session thereof. Now, therefore, T, j Sir George Grey, the Governor of New Zealand, do ( hereby further prorogue the said General Assembly , until Thursday, the 26th day of June, now next ensuing. And Ido also hereby appoint and proclaim ( that .the next Session of the General Assembly of ( New Zealand shall commence and be holden for the , despatch ofbusiness on Thursday, the 26th day of ] June aforesaid, at two of the clock in the afteruoon, 1 in the City of Wellington, and the honourable the ( Members of the Legislative Council and the Members of the House of Representatives, respectively, are , hereby required to give their attendance at the said time and place accordingly." Persons Killed at Taranaki.—" Whereas the undermentioned persons were killed at Taranaki on the 27th March, 1860, under circumstances which render it probable that murder was in each case committed : Notice is hereby given that any of tho natives who were concerned in causing the deaths of those persons under the before-mentioned circumstances, will be at any time apprehended by the civil authorities, and will be brought to trial before the Supreme Court, should it be found, upon enquiry, that they have rendered themselves liable to be tried for murder:— Harry Passmore, Samuel Shaw, Samuel Ford, James Fote,' William Parker." Naturalization.— The following persons, resident within the Province of Marlborough have been admitted as subjects of her Majesty Queen Victoria, under the Naturalization Act, 1861 :— Joseph Fabian, Wairau valley ; Frederick Martello, Picton ; Just William Ovye, Wairau ; Frederick Sejuntd or Smith, Wairau; Ernest Sohwass, Picton; John Smith, Wairau. Districts under the Marriage and Registration Acts. — Charles Ruck Keene, Esq., has been appointed, as Registrar under these Acts for the district of Kaikoraß, and George Leslie Lee, Esq., to a similar position for the district of Amuri. The following are the boundaries of the two districts : — Kaikobas. — The southern boundary of Awatere district, from Barefell's Pass to the mouth of the Clarence, thence following the sea coast to the mouth of the River Tutaiputuputu or Conway, thence following that river to its source, thence running in a straight line to 1 the confluence of the Rivers Acheron and Clarence, thence by the Acheron to the confluence of the Guide, and by that stream to Barefell's Pass. ; Amuri. — The southern boundary of the last named i district, from the mouth of the River Tutaiputuputu or Conway to Barefell's Pass, the watershed summit between Barefell's Pass and the Wairau Gorge, thence to the Wairau Gorge, thence to southern extremity of Lake Howick, thence to the watershed between the • east and west coasts at the head of River Hurunui, l thence down said river to its mouth, thence along sea I coast to the mouth of the River Tutaiputuputu or • Conway. Revising Ofeicee. — Thomas Connell, Esq., has i been appointed as Revising Officer for the following f districts: — Collingwood, Motueka, City of Nelson, r Suburbs of Nelson, Wairaea, Picton, Wairau. s Picton Railway Act.— This Act, which was ret served for the signification of her Majesty's pleasure f thereon, has been disallowed. Exportation of Abms, Gunpowder, Saltpetre, 1 Etc. — Certain correspondence has been transmitted by the Duke of Newcastle to his Excellency the Governor, explaining that her Majesty had prohibited tiie p exportation of powder, saltpetre, uitrate of soda, and 2 brimstone, from the United Kingdom; and stating 9 that "If in the colony under your Government there f shall be no law in force to the effect of the provision - quoted in her Majesty's proclamation, from the Cusi, toms Consolidation Act, of 1853, her Majesty's Government are desirous that you should submit to your ? Legislature the propriety of passing such a law, in s order that you may be in a position to prevent, with . promptitude, the exportation of arms and military y stores, in case circumstances should render such a if measure necessary." The Royal Family. — It has been ordered that a for the future " the Prince Consort " be omitted from c the names of those of the Royal Family who are d specially prayed for; and that, in future, the words v " Albert Edward, Prince of Wales," be used instead of "t " Albert, Prince of Wales." Colonial Defence.— His Grace the DukeoFNew<r castle, in mentioning that tbe dispute with the a American Government has been amicably settled, 0 Bays : — "The alarm, however, which has been felt will d not have been wholly useless, if it shall have impressed x on Colonial Governments the necessity of prompt and effectual preparations against contingencies which, a though happily no- longer imminent, can never, in the

present disturbed state of the world, be regarded ac impossible." Gold Field in Western Australia.— A reward of £5,000 i 3 offered for the discovery of a workable gold-field within a radius of 150 miles from the public offices in the City of Perth, Western Australia. The conditions are that the reward will not be paid until 5,000 ounces of, gold shall have been obtained Irom such gold-field, and entered and cleared at the Custom House in one or several entries. Desertion from the Army and Navy.—" Frequent instances having occurred of desertion from her Majesty's sea and land forces in the colony, notice is hereby given that the most rigorous proceedings will bo taken against any person enticing away, harbouring, concealing, or employing deserters."
