RIFLE PRIZE SHOOTING.

In consequence of Wednesday last having been a very wet day, the firing of the Nelson City Company, for the prizes to be presented by the General Government, has been postponed until Monday next. The following is the score made by the Waimea-east Com- ' pany on Thursday last : — ]

West Coast Gold Fields.— The Gipsy arrived from the Buller on Wednesday, bringing with her about 370 ounces of gold, 200 'of which were in the possession of a native who came up a passenger in her. The gold and coal prospects of the district are both highly spoked of. His Honour the Superintendent left the Buller for the Grey more than a fortnight since, and will return from the latter river by the Mary. We trust we shall shortly be able to furnish our readers with a valuable account of what is aotually doing in this important district. Nelson Board OP Wohk3. — We understand that the dispute between tho Board of Works and the Dun Mountain Company, relative so the siding near the corner of Hardy-street, has been amicably arranged ; and that the Committee of the Company have applied to the Board to suggest a proper site. The Board has, we believe, suggested that the siding should be in Trafalgar-street, but haa left it to tho Company to select which corner they think proper. Provision ia made that the rails shall be kept flush with the Btreet, bo as to offer no obstruction to traffic. Monet Orders. — It appears that the system of granting money orders for transmission by post will not, in consequence of an unexpected difficulty, come into operation this month. Their -issue has therefore been postponed until a future day, of which due notice will be given. Removal op a Nuisance. — The wooden lead that conveys water along Alton-street, to Mr. Campbell'B mill is pretty well known to the inhabitants of this city and has long been very unpleasantly known to many of the residents in its vicinity. That constant complaints have been made against it both by travellers on horseback whose heads were in danger while passing below it, and by persons living near whose houses, gardens, and pathways have been damaged by the water leaking from this wooden spout. We learn that so long ago aa tho year 1857, notice was given to Mr. Campbell that he would have to remove the lead ; and that he should provide underground pipes or some other substitute less annoying to the public. This ample opportunity has, apparently, not been availed of; and we understand that at the written request of the whole neighbouring residents, and after taking legal advice oa the matter, the Board of Works at their last meeting resolved to give Mr. Campbell six weeks notice to remove this mill-lead, and informed him that at the expiration of that time they would cause its immediate and posßtive removal if he did not comply with the terms of their notice. The Suspension Beidge.— We are glad to learn that the Board of Works have at length resolved to remove this structure which has so long been in such a dilapidated and dangerous condition. A previous interference with it was prevented by an Injunction of the Supreme Court ; but we understand that Mr. Travers, the promoter of that injunction, has written to say that he will offer no objection to the bridge being now removed, and the Provincial Engineer has certified tbat if the bridge were allowed to fall into the water, great danger to both private and public proJ>erty would most probably ensue. The Board thereore, have wisely resolved to take the bridge to pieces and remove it. Its future site has not yet been fixed on.
