CRICKET MATCH.

A match was played, between the Spring Grove and Ranzau Clubs, on the ground of the former, on Thursday, the 13th instant. Owing to the afternoon turning out wet, the second innings was postponed until the following day.

The playing of both elevens was very good, especially the bowling of Messrs. S. and M. Coleman of the Ranzau, and Mr. J. Rutherford of the Spring Grove Club ; the batting of Mr. M. Coleman adding 61 (in both innings) to the score of the Ranzauites. The game terminated in favour of the Ranzau Cricket Club, with four wickets to go down.

The West Coast.— A considerable number of persona have left Nelson within the last week for the West Coast diggings. Recent accounts received from the Buller river, have been sufficiently encouraging to juetify a large addition to the gold seeking population there. To enable us to give full and reliable accounts of what is taking place at the various diggings on the West Coast, we have despatched a gentleman to collect information for us, on whose statements we shall be enabled to place the most implicit reliance. Ring- op Bells.— A public meeting is called by advertisement for Tuesday next, to consider the propriety of raising a certain sum by subscription, in order to provide our town with a ring of six bellp. A gentleman who has taken a warm interest in the matter has provided himself with all the necessary information as to cost, &c. ; and, as the sum is by no means a large one, we hope that our fellow-townsmen will readily subscribe the necessary amount, for nothing could more vividly recall a remembiance of English country life than the introduction of a peal of bells similar to those which may be heard from nearly every English church.

Compensation.— By advertisement it will be seen that " the Commissioners appointed to investigate the claims of the persons whose names appear in the schedules appended to the Land for Compensation Act, 1859," will hold their sittings at the Courthouse, Nelson, on Friday, the 21st, and Monday, the 24th instant ; and at the Black Horse Inn, Wakapuaka, on Tuesday, the 28th instant.
