The sire of Clyde Champion was the celebrated i horse Clyde, the property of William Sterling, of i Keir, M.P., and his stock are universally recognised as of the highest quality. 'His sire was the well-known and far-famed horse, Britain, of Renfrewshire, and his dam a very powerful bay mare, of the pure Clydes- ' dale breed. Britain gained the premium of the HighI land Society, at Edinburgh. Clyde, when rising two, f gained the first prize at Paisley, and the same year the • first prize at the Kilbarchau and Johnstone cattle shows. At three, he gained the first prize of the Highland Society, at Glasgow ; and at four, the Highland Society's premium of thirty sovereigns, at Dumbarton. The dam of Clyde Champion, the famed pure Clydesdale mare Nancy, was got by the celebrated Aberdeenshire horse, Champion. The whole of Clyde's stock, of which Clyde Champion is a very favourable specimen, are esteemed among the best horses now travelling in Scotland, and bear the highest prices.
