The steamer Lord Ashley arrived from Wellington on Sunday morning, but without the English mail, which had been put on board the schooner Marchioness, bound for tins port, two days previously. As may be expected, this intelligence caused great disappointment in town, especially as the outward mail steamer was advertised to sail on the following day. Towards evening, however, the Marchioness was signalled, ana by the energy of Mr. Hill, of H. M. Customs, the mail was landed the same evening, and was ready for delivery at ten on the following morning. The steamer White Swan also arrived from the South yesterday. The Lord Worsley left for Sydney on Monday evening with the European mails, and with several passengers, including Mr. and Mrs. Fell and family, who were long and well-known residents in Nelson. The Duchess of Leinster, for Nelson, sailed from Gravesend on the 11th October. The Midlothian also sailed on the same day. The Acasta, from Wellington, arrived in the Downs on the Bth October.
