NELSON LITERARY AND SCIENTIFIC INSTITUTION.
At a special general meeting of the members of the above Institution, held in the Eeading Boom, on Monday evening, H. Adams, Esq., in the chair, the following resolutions were unanimously agreed to :—: —
"1. That the Nelson Literary and Scientific Institution be re-organized under the designation of the 'Nelson Institute,' so as to embrace a museum, library, rooms for classes, lectures, &c.
"2. That the public shall be admitted to the museum free of charge, but under such regulations as shall from time to time be issued by the committee of the Institute.
"3. That the subscription to the Institute be ten shillings yearly.
" 4. That a donation of £10 shall constitute the donor a life member of the Institute ; and that the committee shall have the power of conferring a lift membership upon any other person whose donations or other services to the Institute shall entitle such persons (in the opinion of the committee) to that privilege. Life members of the Nelson Literary and Scientific Institution to be life members of the Institute.
" 5. That special donations shall be applied to the specific objects for which they are given. " 6. That the committee be instructed to proceed to frame a fresh set of rules on the above basis, repealing the present rules of the Institution, and in doing so to co-operate with the committee appointed at the public meeting held on the loth of November ; and that the rules so framed be submitted to a special general meeting of the members of the Institution, to be held on the 15th of December, at half-past six, p.m."
