Local Intelligence.

Mr. Jenkins's Coal. — We imderetand that the committee appointed at the public meeting (an account of which will be found below) have met, and that they are not agreeable to that part of the proposed conditions by which 500 paid up shares are to be allotted to Mr. Jenkins. This was the point, we believe, on which the former provisional committee and Mr. Jenkins differed ; and whether or not the difference will be adjusted remains to be seen. We have been requested since the meeting to state that Mr. Jenkins is prepared to extend the term of lease to 60 years, or even longer if required.

Waitohi Land. — On Tuesday last, Messrs. N. Edwards and Co. Bold by auction at their warehouse, Town Section No. 328, Waitohi. The price realized was £10 10s.

Town Bridges. — We understand that only one tender for the erection of a bridge over the Maitai, at Nile-street, was received in answer to tho advertisement published by the Board, and that, as this tender was unsatisfactory, it was not accepted. We hear also that no eligible tenders for the removal of the Suspension Bridge were received, and that the Board have resolved, instead of going to the expense of removing a perfectly worn-out bridge, to sell the materials of it, and to erect a new bridge over the Mailai at Bridge-street. It is said that legal proceedings have been commenced, with a view to prevent the removal of the Suspension Bridge, but it is the almost universal opinion that the bridge is at present in a very inconvenient situation, and that it will be of little public.benefit as soon as another bridge is erected in Bridge-street.

The Tueatee.— On Wednesday evening, Douglas Jen-old's celebrated nautical drama of Black-eyed Susan was produced at our Theatre, and attracted a large audience. Considering , the difficulties wliioh the management had to encounter in the production of such a piece on so small a stage, the performance was decidedly a successful one, and with one exception, the parts were played very creditably. The Jacob Twig of Mr. Clements was very amusing, and elicited shouts of laughter. The opening scone between Gnatbrain and Dogg'rass was also lu'ghly entertaining ; and although some portions of the first act, especially the portrayal of the character of the sailor on shore, were rather dull, the second act presented a decided improvement. The audience seemed

greatly pleased with the whole piece, and testified their approbation by repeated rounds of applause. The contortions of Signor Jose Meranda afforded an amusing interlude, and the farce of the Married Bachelor concluded the amusements. Another performance was announced to take place last night, but owing to the inclemency of the weather it was postponed until next Tuesday evening.
