The Gold Fields. — We have just seen the best specimen of gold brought from the Aorere which has yet fallen under our notice. It is a lot of 20 ozs. 2 dwts. 10 grs., obtained by two men, being the result of five weeks' labour, the first two of which was spent unprofitably. This, however, was not the whole of the gold found, as the men had parted with a small quantity before returning to Nelson. The lot is wholly of a nuggetty character, varying in size from the head of a large pin to that of a French bean. This gold was obtained in Appoo's Gully, which has now 450 persons employed in it alone. We have seen within the last few days several other successful diggers who have returned with their bags well filled. Persons are flocking fast to the Aorere from all quarters, and the number there must now be fast approaching 1,000. Licenses. — At a meeting of magistrates, held yesterday in the Court-house, the following licenses were granted : — John Luck, Trafalgar Hotel, Trafalgar-street Thomas Sullivan, Wakatu Hotel, Bridge-street William Jacob Miles, Odd Fellows' Arms, Bridgestreet Charles Gentry, Royal Hotel, Bridge-street Miles Atkinson Simpson, Prince Albert Hotel, Nile-street John Tregea, Miners' Arms, Hardy-street Thomas Clarke, Bridge Hotel, Haven-road William Crowther, Haven Inn, Haven-road Frederick Stock, London Tavern, Haven-road Edward Everett, Commercial Hotel, Trafalgarstreet Henry Ingham, Turf Hotel, Stoke Mary Cleaver, Plough Inn, Richmond Wilham Watson Nicholson, Star and Garter, Richmond Joseph Potter Parker, Motueka Hotel, Motueka Wi liam Harding, Swan Inn, Motueka.
