NEW BAPTIST CHAPEL.

The foundation stone of the Chapel for the use of the Baptist congregation in Nelson, was laid on Wednesday afternoon, by the Rev. Mr. Dolamore, Minister of the congregation, in the presence of a numerous and respectable assembly, who appeared deeply interested in the whole of the proceedings. Between two and three hundred persons afterwards took tea in the Nelson School Room, which had been kindly granted for the occasion. In tbe evening a public meeting was held, in the tame place ; D. Sclanders, Esq. presiding, Interesting and effective addresses were deliver. * by the Revs. T. D. Nicholson, and D. lrolamore, as well as by Messrs. Gardner, Daniel, Campbell, and Wagg. From the financial account read to the meeting, it appeared that about eighty pounds, in addition to subscriptions paid and promised, would be required to complete the building so far that it might be used for public worship; pews, Sec. not being included in the estimate. Towards this, additional sums amounting to ten pounds had been promised, and the proceeds of the tea meeting, about nine pounds dear, would reduce it to a little more than sixty pounds. This the congregation were very desirous of raising.

The utmost harmony appeared to perTade tbe meeting, and a very cordial sympathy was manifeater for its objects. Tbe collection at the close amounted to six pounds, ten shillings. . The parchment deposited, with a few coins, under the foundation stone, read as follows. " This foundation stone was laid on the 20th day of October, in tbe year of our Lord 1852, being also the sixteenth year of the reign of her most gracious Majesty Queen Victoria, and the eleventh year of the Nelson Settlement: the chapel resting upon it" being built for tbe use of a congregation of Christians usually denomi* nated Baptists. " Pastor of the Church, The Rev. D. DoUmore. •• In God is all our trust." A summary of the doctrines held and taught by tbe Baptists* with the names of tbe Deacons and Trustees, was also inscribed on the parchment. We cannot but congratulate the Baptists of Nelson on the auspicious commencement of this important undertaking.- Every Christian congregation should have its place of worship, and should have it if possible free from debt. They have succeeded thus far pretty well : and in their earnest efforts to raise their chapel without an encumbrance of debt we wish them success.
