(■- Blithe Sandy to Isaac did say, Will ye gang to yon Council gay, Where silly bodies meet the day, And serve awhile wi\ Georgy ? Ah, na lad ! I'll no gang there, Nor about Georgy tak a care, Nor about Georgy tak a care, I'll never be a Nommi. For hark, and I will tell you, lad, How Tommy flew about like mad, W look o' woe, and face sac sad, - Like a poor hunted mauki :" I wat it cost him sair to fleech The louns he's gotten frae the beach, ? And had to gae 'em mony a speech <tV That you were but a gawkie — That when Georgy after you did seek, You turned your head an' thraw'd your cheek, And 'bout a seat would hardly speak ; '\ _ Wha'd no ca' you a gawkie ? That sure the birkies had mair sense, "Who took a seat and no offence, They show'd their wisdom and their mense, And they should be his dawtie. But, whist, nae mair o' this we'll speak, For yonder Georgy does us meet ; Instead o' those he coaz'd sac sweet, I trow he likes the gawkie. O, dear friends, I hardly knew, When I came by, that it were you, Come, winna now ye serve me true? Quoth they, that's like a gawkie ! We'll not serve you, we'll serve na ane, Nor sell our kintrie for a name ; Sac ye may gang the gate ye came, And tell it to your dawtie. The bluid appear' d in Georgy's cheek, And said, while he was like to greet, If I should gang anither gate, I ne'er should meet my dawtie. The laddies fast frae him. then flew And left poor Georgy sair to rue That e'er a Nommi Bill he drew, Or the Doctor cad a gawkie : And as they gade alang they sang, And all the beach wi' echoes rang, And all the beach wi' echoes rang. To see the lads sa pauky.
