Mr. Macshane was one of the earliest Nelson settlers, having came out with the preliminary expedition as the Company's Medical Offlcer, to which were subsequently added the duties of Immigration Agent. An ardent admirer of his profession, to which he brought talents ot no mean order, and a man of perfect integrity and independence, his lots could not but be severely felt in any community, but more particularly so in the infant settlements ot New Zealand.
