KIDNAPPING. To tbb Editor of the Nklson Examiner. Sir — It is rather surprising that the numerous depredations that are almost nightly and daily perpetiated in this settlement, to the loss and annoyance of the industrious, steady, and honest settlers, have yet attracted little or no public attention. Crime of this nature is fearfully on the increase, and therefore every measure calculated to arrest and suppress its progress ought to he promptly exercised. For being allowed with impunity to give such frequent proofs of their base cunning and ability, there is no conjecturing how far such unprincipled vagabonds will think they may go, growing bolder on every repetition of their villany. Nor are kids the sole victims of these wretches, for goats, pigs, calves, and poultry are alike sought after, and too frequently put out of the owner's way. If it be the duty ot the police to attend to and investigate such cases, it is highly desirable that notice should be given at the public office of every instance of the kind : one great drawback, probably, against bringing the offenders to justice, will be found in there being no fees for the constables, as in the case of drunkards and stray dogs ; however, the public would be doing as much as in them lies, and it would show the kid and other nappers that there is a probability of being napped in their turn. 1 am, sir, Yours, &c. The " Spectue " of a Victim. Nelson, Mdy 28.
