NEW ZEALAND SOCIETY.

A meeting t>f the Nelson New Zealand Society was held at the Court House on Tuesday last, U B. Brewer, Esq., in the chair. Some discussion took place on the subject of the appointment of the Special Committee, Mr. BftiT objecting to it on the score that the Opinions of the few persons who would compose it would not represent the public mind. Mr. Bell explained that it was intended to Slave frequent meetings of the general body, burposely to invite general opinion on the subjects which would occupy the attention of the special committee, and to avoid the possibility of the wishes of a few persons being forced on the public.

A ballot was then held for the Chairman, Vice Chairman, and Committee, and the following gentlemen were elected -—Mr. Brewer, Chairman; Mr. J. S. Tytler, Vice Chairman; and Messrs. Domett, Dillon, Bell, Tytler, Elliott, Otterson, and Fearon, members of the Committee, with power to add four other persons. Eventually it was resolved that this committee should cease on the first Monday in June, when it will lay before a general meeting the rules for the government of the association, and a paper describing its objects and character, as a record for the information of future members. A ballot was about to take place for the Honorary Secretary, but Mr. Bell was unanimously requested to act in that capacity. The meeting then adjourned.
