WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
MEETING AT VRUWHENUA The November meeting of the Uruwhenua Women’s Institute was held in the Uruwhenua Hall. Mrs A. Barnett presided. Birthday posies were given to Mrs Lindsay and Mrs B. Johnson. Members contributed for International Day and for a delegate from the Dominion Federation to be sent to England. It was decided to hold a farewell afternoon at Upper Takaka for a menji ber (Mrs Lovell) who4s leaving to live in Blenheim. A Post Office Savings Account was opened for Lynn Rosser. It was arranged for the secretary to send a parcel to the sick small son of one of the members. Mrs Elder and Mrs Proffitt judged the competitions which resulted as follows: Lard tarts, Mrs A. Barnett 1, Mrs N. Barnett 2, Mrs Rogers 3. Christmas gift, Mrs Kerr 1, Mrs Lindsay 2, Mrs N. Barnett 3. Specimen flower, Mrs A. Barnett 1, Mrs Simpson 2, Mrs Rogers 3. The result of the six months’ competitions were as follows: competition, Mrs A. Barnett 1, Mrs N. Barnett 2, Mrs Lindsay 3. Specimen flower, Mrs Simpson and Miss Russ, 1 equal, Mrs A. Barnett 2, Mrs N. Barnett 4. Mrs I. Barnett gave a most interest ing lecture on the “Women of Japan” which was greatly enjoyed by all. The hostesses Mrs Manson and Miss Russ served afternoon tea.
