EXTREMISTS NEAR BANDOENG RAFWI REFUGEES ENDANGERED Batavia, Nov., 28. Extremists near Bandoeng have got dangerously out of hand. There are 50,000 RAPWI refugees in this area. Gurkhas supported by Japanese tanks cleared extremists from their defences ir. the factory district no..th of Bandoeng. It is not stated whether the tanks were manned by Japanese. Evacuees moving into the town from outlying districts are creating an a-commodation problem. Increased firing is reported from the Central Hotel area, but Nationalist road blocks in the area have been cleared. The port of Semarang is reported quieter. It is hoped to evacuate 2000 refugees from Semarang to Batavia shortly. Night sniping continues in Batavia. OCCUPATION OF SURABAYA Batavia, Nov., 29. The British command has announced that the occupation of Surabaya has been completed and a local administration established under British control. Military operations continue south of Surabaya, where 12 Indonesian guns were knocked out.
