TRAFALGAR PARK GRANDSTAND

CITY COUNCIL TO HAVE PLANS REVISED COUNCIL OF SPORTS OFFER The Nelson City Council last evening instructed the City Engineer (Mr C. I. Kidson) to have the existing plans for the proposed grandstand at Trafalgar Park revised and to report back to the council That decision was made following consideration of the Reserves Committee’. report on the scheme proposed by the Nelson Council of Sport for financing the erection of a grandstand. The sports bodies were prepared to contribute £SOOO towards the cost of a stand on condition that they receive all revenue from the stand for c. period of ten years.

Councillor S. T. Savage said the offer of the Council of Sport should be seriously considered as it was the finest offer eVer made to the council. He thought that the ten years’ revenue I from the stand was a reasonable request to enable the repayment of the I bodies willing to tie up their funds in | the stand for that period. It was probi able however that the cost of the structure would now be £ 15.000. Councillor F. H. Sharland said that if th' war had not intervened the stand would probably have been erecte<i by now. The Council of Sport were providing a golden opportunity for the council to go further into the matter. He thought the area of the park might be extended by reclamation to provide more room for the proposed facilities.

On Councillor J* Newman’s motion the revision of the plans, to provide for modern facilities, was referred to the engineer.
