NATIONAL SAVINGS

CALLING TO AIL NELSONIANS (To the Editoi) Sir. —With the approach of the holiday season and the pleasing news that many districts throughout New Zealand have already passed their National Savings annual quotas, the Nelson National Savings Committee are making special efforts to secure the maximum investments during the next few weeks. The Nelson District has never yet failed to top its annual quota of £71,084, and it is confidently expected that we will again meet our National Savings requirements. The following table sets out the actual investments to date, the annual quota required, and the amount still needed at each office in the Nelson District to reach that goal:— Actual Amt. invest- anl. reOffice ments quota quired £ £ £ Nelson City .... 38,952 41.704 2,752 Brightwater .... 1.008 1.924 916 Collingwood .... 672 884 212 Motueka 7.710 8.216 506 Murchison 1.954 2.340 386 Richmond 2.841 4.680 1,839 Tadmor 199 312 113 Takaka 3.325 4,212 887 Upper Moutere 1,769 2.600 831 V T ~»kefield 2.367 4.212 1,845 It will be seen from the returns mentioned that a special effort is required. specially at Brightwater, Richmond. Tadmor, Upper Moutere and Wakefield, if the Nelson district is to keep up its proud National Savings record. The need for stabilising our internal economy, the meeting of outstanding war costs, the duty of rehabilitation and our commitments in the 1945 Victory Loan make National Savings more important to the national welfare than ever. • It is perhaps not inappropriate to say that in 1920 (two years after the last war) inflation was at its worst and prominent leaders throughout the British Empire have warned us again and again that this condition may arise again. By saving now while goods are still in short supply and prices are at a high level National Savings investors will not only be helping to ward off inflation but will also ensure for themselves much better value for their money when goods and services are again available in normal quantities and at normal prices. The Nelson National Savings Committee appeals to all Nelsonians to support this special effort and confidently expects to report all clear on the Nelson National Savings Front before the dawn —of what we hope will be—a happy, prosperous New Year for all our people.—l a etc. Wm. a: REED. (District Organiser, National Savings, Nelson.) _ Nelson, 28th November.
