HOSPITAL STAFFS

DECLARATION OF ESSENTIALITY TO BE REVOKED (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) Wellington, Nov. 28. A number of hospital boards in smaller centres had indicated that they would have no difficulty in maintaining adequate staffs if the declaration of essentiality were removed, stated the Minister of Industrial Manpovyer, Mr McLagan. Accordingly action wai being taken to revoke the declarations in respect of the hospitals concerned as from 6th December. In the case of the Wellington Hospital the board had indicated that it would have to rely on directed staff as long as the controls remained in force. Wnila he was anxious that compulsory direc tions should be reduced to a minimum it would still be necessary in view of the Wellington Board's request to direct further girls to work at the Wellington Hospital Board’s institutions until the end of February.
