HOMESERVICEMEN’S ASSOCIATION WAIMEA SUB-BRANCH FIRST ANNUAL BALL BRiGHTWATER HALL SATURDAY, 18TH DECEMBER, 1945 NELSON R.S.A. QUARTERLY GENERAL MEETING At the quarterly general meeting of the Nelson Returned Services Association there wer e about 100 members present. The chairman, .Mr U. R. L. West, president of the Nelson R.S.A., welcomed the Nelson-Marl-borough and West Coast District vicepresident on the Dominion Executive, Mr J. C. Irving, of Blenheim. Mr Irving said that it was his first official visit to Nelson since he had been elected district representative to the Dominion Executive. He extended greetings to men of World War 11. present at the meeting and stressed the fact that 'the older members of the R.S.A. who had carried on sinc e World War I. were now ready to vacate their executive positions to make way for the younger men. The R.S.A. was a non-political organisation, stated Mr Irving, and what views it had should be towards an ardent and individual nolicy. As it was now, the association could take an independent view of the policy of any Government. Mr Irving then went on to discuss matters dealing with eligibility to membership, military defaulters, gratuity payments, rehabilitation, war pensions for veterans and the allocation of monies from th e Canteen Funds. A resolution was passed by the meeting recommending an increase in the annual subscription from 10/_ to 12/6 to cover the cost of the issue monthly of the “R.S.A. Review.”
