MAPUA FLOWER SHOW

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE’S FUNCTIONS MRS L. WAKEFIELD’S CHAMPION BLOOM A fine day favoured the third annual flower show of the Mapua-Mahana Women’s Institute. This was the first occasion of its being held in the new Public Hall, which is roomy enough to allow for adequate spacing of the exhibits. This year the hall committee assisted in organising the show, and shared in the ‘proceeds. The show was opened in the afternoon by Mrs Blair of Tasman, who was introduced by Mrs Tait, president of the Women’s Institute., Although owing to the wintry conditions persisting far into the spring, and the subsequent dryness of the season conditions were not favourable to the best development of many kinds of flowers, the exhibition of cut blooms was a very fine one, the roses especially included many remarkably beautiful specimens. In the decorative section there were some -very artistic arrangements and, blends of colour. The children’s section was well represented, but rather crowded. The miniature gardens of this section were numerous and showed much taste, imagination and ingenuity on the part of the youthful gardeners.
